These instructions are for the information of already approved
photographers or those contemplating selling through us. The latter
group will find more information here.
Registering
as an approved photographer is separate to being registered as
a 'user':
- You must first be registered as a 'user' - click on the 'login'
link at the top left of most pages of the site to be led to a
registration page.
- Complete the registration screen.
- If already a 'user', make sure you are
logged in before proceeding further.
- You also need to be approved as a photographer - see
here.
- Now Sign
up after submission approved and complete the additional
details required to register. Read the
terms and conditions and then press 'Submit'.
- Now email me to let me know that you have done this - I need
to access your records to give you further access rights so you
should let me know your username.
Loading images:
- The following applies to images that have already been prepared
and submitted at the 48MB size as required by agencies such as
Alamy
- with IPTC
information entact
- Use the bulk
size conversion utilities in photoshop (or ACDSee v8) to resize
them and save copies at 10% of their original size. Save as quality
level 8 (photoshop - 80% in other applications) jpgs. Check compressed
file size is
less than 150kb before loading.
- No watermarks please!
- Loading becomes easier if you assemble prepared images in folders
by subject matter or theme.
- Within subjects group by type of license of whether model released
- although info can be changed later the bulk image loading will
be most effective in saving you time if this is done
- Zip up images in each group (highlight images, right click and
select zip) ready to load. No more that 12 images should be zipped
up in a single file.
- Under the heading Image at a time or Multiple File Upload
(inc IPTC) press Add Images
- Choose the license & model release criteria that apply to most
or all of the images in a zipped folder, browse to the folder and
hit 'submit'.
- After about a minute on a broadband connection you will be taken
to a page that will display your loaded images all titled, keyworded
and with license information recorded - check the information and
amend where necessary - ignore pricing.
- Insert Alamy image references at this point if relevant and known
at this point (see below)
Images going live on the site:
- Images are live on the site to be searched on using keywords
as soon as they are loaded
- To get onto pages indexed by the search engines they must be
assigned to a 'submission'. A submission forms a page on the site
that is part of the index structure.
- Until you become more familiar with the way photoconnect works
we will set up these pages for you -
you need to send us an email suggesting appropriate page descriptions
for these pages.
- When these pages are set up, you will then be able to return
to your Unassigned Images page to assign them them to submissions.
- Using the 'recent' link will be the most effective way of finding
a recently set up page.
Linking to Alamy / Amending image information:
- Under 'unassigned images' or 'assigned images', click on the
'amend' link
- Insert or amend information as relevant. For the image link you
will have to find the image reference and paste into the relevant
field.
- You may adjust pricing from the defaults if you wish. The max
size option should not need to be amended.
